Pythian is seeking an Application Support Developer you will work as part of an agile continuous delivery team and collaborate with designers, senior developers, operators, project managers, and others to help deliver product capabilities and features to Pythian's groundbreaking Cloud based platform project (Tehama). You will be working to develop a brand new cloud first solution (no legacy development here!) including the automation of infrastructure, utilizing technologies such as NPM, Node.js, Typescript and AWS. If you have a passion for development and problem solving this could be the job for you!


What Will You Be Doing?

  • Your primary focus will be as a developer working in close coordination with Development, Operations and Quality Assurance remote teams in Canada performing debugging and deploying hot fixes to ensure optimized solutions are offered to customers.
  • You will also provide on call front-line technical support of a cloud native, AWS deployed application for our expanding global customer base. This will involves overseeing level 2 support activities including triaging and resolving issues, utilizing stack traces etc.
  • Troubleshooting critical production issues affecting end-users, including system unavailability and data integrity issues.
  • Gathering information for analysis, carrying out the necessary research, evaluating customer environments, replicate issues locally and proposing resolutions or workarounds.
  • Providing coordinated support for getting new releases and changes into customer environments.
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues at customer locations (remotely).
  • Developing technical materials and training sessions for level 1 support and end users.

What Do We Need From You?

  • An Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related degree (or equivalent experience in software engineering)
  • 3+ years experience in design, develop and support of applications and API development. With good knowledge of developing micro-services using various languages such as Java/JEE, Javascript, Typescript, Node.js,).
  • Experience with front-end languages and/or frameworks for web development such as TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Bootstrap etc is plus.
  • Excellent analytical, debugging, problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills to diagnose root causes, evaluate and resolve complex software issues, and when appropriate, escalate or assign issues to appropriate team members.
  • Good understanding of Cloud computing concepts and technologies ideally with experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or some other IaaS platforms (GCP, Azure).
  • Knowledge in DevOps orchestration and tooling a plus
  • Experience building and deploying applications on the Cloud, using CI/CD frameworks; Jenkins, Sonarqube, Junit etc.
  • Be willing and able to work on an on call rotation, outside of standard office hours.
