    TRAVEL: Up to 50% travel is required within North America; primarily the travel will be centred in USA

    OVERVIEW:  The SQL Server Principal Consultant will, as part of our Pythian Consulting Team, supply complete support for all aspects of database administration and architecture work.

    This includes database design and architecture, cloud migrations, data modeling, planning of deployment, deployment/test, transition to production environment, performance and health monitoring, performance, security and DR audits and reviews.



    Provide support to external clients on all aspects of SQL Server Database Management, including but not limited to:


    •   Recommendation of best practices for improvements to current operational processes and procedures
    •      Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery architectures  
    •      Provide recommendations and implementation guidance for data layer modernization and migrations
    •      Root cause analysis and remediation of operational problems
    •      Coordinating, analyzing, designing, implementing and administering IT solutions
    •      Database performance optimization
    •      Restoration and recovery of corrupted databases
    •      Database server configuration and maintenance
    •      Participate in pre-sales process including customer engagement and service delivery estimation
    •      Periodic overtime and weekend work
    •      Other duties as assigned by the SDM/Team Lead


    QUALIFICATIONS:  Highly experienced in Database design and Administration performing the following:


    •     Expert knowledge of all current versions of SQL Server
    • Expert knowledge of SQL Server on Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform
    • Expert knowledge of SQL Server related PaaS offerings
    •     Design and implementation of Highly Availability and Disaster Recovery Architectures
    •     Data modeling
    •     Performance Tuning
    •     Coding Powershell, SQL, Scripts, Stored Procedures, functions, etc.
    •     Installations, configurations, and upgrading of databases
    •     Develop methods for monitoring
    •     Minimum 8 years of experience in Database Administration, and expertise in all of the following:
    • Installing, configuring and upgrading SQL Server databases
    • SQL Server Administration
    • SQL Server client tools
    • Performance tuning of SQL Server databases
    • SQL Server technical support
    • Designing and implementing various SQL Server backup/recovery strategies
    • SQL Server DR strategies (database mirroring, log shipping, etc.)
    • SQL Server Replication
    • SQL Server Clustering
    • Coding scripts, procedures, functions, etc.
    • Developing methods for monitoring
    • SQL Server tools (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
    •     Experience with Virtualization
    •     Knowledge of server hardware    
    •     Experience interfacing with external customers
    •     Good Project Management, time management, scheduling and coordination skills
    •     White paper writing, blogging and presenting a plus
    •     The successful candidate will have proper authorization to work and travel in the US

    BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:  (Any of the following)

    Experience with any other RDBMS platforms

    •     NoSQL Experience (Any flavor)
    •     BI Experience

    •    Frequent, short notice, travel on a regular basis
    •    Participate in on-call rotation and periodic overtime
    •    Ability to perform primary job functions while standing or sitting for extended periods of time
    •    Dexterity of hands and fingers (or skill with adaptive devices) to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computing equipment
    •    The incumbent must spend long hours in intense concentration
    •    Stress may be caused by the need to complete tasks within tight deadlines

    EDUCATION: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology other related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
